History of Flute Ensembles
Flue ensembles, a small chamber group of flute players, are a relatively recent development in the world of ensembles, as they started appearing on college campuses in the 1960s (the same time period that Ithaca College moved to our South Hill campus!).

When flute ensembles began to hear of each other, more and more started to form which led to the development of the National Flute Association. This led to an increase in repertoire for these ensembles, also called "flute choirs". Now, the NFA is the largest flute organization in the world and holds different national flute choirs for professional, collegiate, and high school flutists that are audition based. Aside from national flute choirs like those, lots of communities will hold their own flute choirs, such as one I was apart of at my local music store in 2018 and 2019 and soon will be apart of again in summer of 2023, its first year running again since the pandemic.
Ithaca College Flute Ensemble
We are a group of flute majors as well as non flute majors who meet once a week for an hour to play chamber flute music. We had our most recent concert on April 25, where we performed both contemporary music as well as more classical pieces.
