Music's Social Impact

Aside from just being a fun activity, playing in a musical ensemble has benefits that affect the brain and can positively impact student's lives. Music programs can foster the growth of social development through learning teamwork and leadership, the formation of meaningful relationships, and confidence skills as well as boosting academic success.

Learning to play an instrument creates biological changes in your brain, and it learns to process sounds it could not otherwise hear, improving literacy.

By being in a music ensemble, you create relationships with your peers that you look up to which encourages you to strive to be a stronger player. Performance opportunities boost confidence and pride, preparing you for other aspects of life

MUSIC ENSEMBLES BOOST SELF-ESTEEM, OPTIMISM, HAPPINESS, AND PERSEVERANCE

In a study done through the South African Musical Outreach Project, those were some of the traits reported when students had access to instruments and were able to play in an ensemble. Increased happiness correlates to an increased psychological wellbeing.
